Alternative is usually just a word tossed around in music when people can’t be bothered to dissect and discover. But when I use it concerning Anomie Bell, I actually do mean her album is alternative. There is so much going on I can’t place it.
I can hear techno, ambient music, industrial rock, and synth-pop in the music. (There is even an appearance from a hip-hop artist on track 3!)
Then there is the voice.
Anomie Bell’s is so hypnotizing and unique that you lose yourself while you listen. And all this from someone who is a classically trained cellist!
1st track: ‘Electric Lullaby’- Slow, electronica track with occasional bursts of electrical guitar.
2nd track: ‘Inky Drips’- A slightly hard techno track with the plenty of synthesizer thrown in.
3rd track: ‘Machine’ – A track that, to me, sounds industrial. The drums are hard, and the back-up singer sounds like a demon. But around the middle, there is a guest hip-hop appearance.
4th track: ‘It’s A Crush’ – A rock track with a few touches of synth here and there.
5th track: ‘Mosquito In The Closet’ – A mournful sounding; ambient offering with plenty of cello.
6th track: ‘Bodies Offering’ -Song where I can hear both mixes of electronica and hip-hop beats.
7th track: ‘Picture Perfect’ – An ethereal duet with a performer named Jon Auer.
8th track: ‘Lost Horizon’ – Perfectly crafted synth-pop song.
9th track: ‘Privilege’ – Another duet, this time with Anna-Lynne Williams. And this track, towards the end has a guitar bit that you would expect from the Eagles.
10th track: ‘On T.V’ – A creeping song that alternates between great backing blues and a string section.
11th track: ‘Lavender Days’ – Another ambient, ethereal song that will have you daydreaming.
12th track: ‘Phantom’- Almost sounds Celtic to me.
