Dawn Before Decent is a young, local Hamilton band that manages to mash up a variety of influences to achieve a really fun listening experience. This song is a good mix of turbulent guitar riffs and acerbic vocals. It showcases a lot of the factors that make this band so fun. The skilled guitar and drums compliment lead singer, Dean Irvine’s punk rock vocals.
The band got together back in 2001, and lead vocalist, Dean Irvine and bassist Michael Park are old friends from this time. But it wasn’t until 2006 that the boys took their band up a notch. They formed a Green Day cover band, but accumulated a portfolio of original songs they would play at each new gig.
Like many bands, changes have been made, and drummers have come and gone, but now, in their late teens, their punk-rock jams have been showcased all over Ontario. The combination of influences these young men have, gives them a broader spectrum of appeal to audiences of all ages. With the recent addition of Gabriel Bitti as the band’s new drummer, these guys are ready to rock.
DB4D has been a part of several major festivals over the years. Epilepsy Hamilton, Save CHCH, Hamilton 4 Haiti and the headliner slot on the new music stage at Hamilton’s “It’s Your Festival” have all had a DB4D performance on the roster. The boys were also selected as the winner of the Ontario Music Schools Competition, with a final score of 97 percent.
Hamilton’s punk scene is already big, and it’s growing. These guys got in the game at just the right time, and the city should keep their eyes peeled for them in the future.
