Making a passion fruit margarita for me!

Burlington’s premier food event of the summer did not disappoint the approximately 700 people who turned up on Sunday, August 10/14 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Lakeside à la Carte.
The weather was warm and sunny as people gathered under huge white tents in downtown Burlington’s beautiful Spencer Smith Park to enjoy delicious cuisine prepared by some of the area’s best restaurants, paired with local VQA wines, beer and spirits. Great live entertainment was provided by the Hayley Roscoe Band and all was in aid of the charitable work of the Rotary Club Burlington Central.
According to Mélanie Schrauwers of the Rotary Club over $80,000 was raised during the day, which will be utilized by the Club to support the development and improvement of young people.
People responded with generosity (and hope) to the raffles as they had a chance to win two tickets to Air Canada destinations in North America; travel for four in the Toronto-Quebec City corridor (thanks to Via Rail Canada), and a wheel barrow filled with premium wine (thanks to Green Thumb Landscaping). Proceeds from the raffles went to food4kids and Halton Food For Thought.
Rounding out the fun was a silent auction, offering more than $20,000 in merchandise, gift certificates and event tickets.
There were many delicious culinary treats to enjoy and here are my personal highlights:
Water Street Cooker: Delicate fried green tomatoes, and quesidallas
Paradiso: Delicious mini butter tarts, and sliders
Prime: Beef satay served with peanut sauce
My Thai: Their famous mango salad with chicken
Fortinos: A great selection of fruit and cheeses
