Hamilton is a city whose core lies in all things grunge. Offering up some rough around the edges, loud, garage rock from the heart of the Hammer, Pet Sun is a brand new band with so much potential.
Fuzzed out, bass heavy songs with rad vocals, these dudes are on the up-and-up. The band just released a strange and captivating music video for their debut album’s title track Feel Like I’m Going Away. The album is set to drop on Cassette Tape day (September 27th) through Sleepless Records.
Performing out of Toronto now, the quartet have managed to make a name for themselves outside of Hamilton; just far enough away to gain some substantial head way musically, they remain close enough to draw inspiration from the grit and grime they came from.
If you know the venues, it’s easy to picture yourself at The Casbah, This Ain’t Hollywood (or hey, even The Doors Pub) head banging to these guys. The tracks on their upcoming debut album are just the right amount of grunge with some psychedelic lo-fi inspired sounds.
Their music feels a bit like surfer boy meets angsty teen (and then maybe they grab a pint together and realize they’re not all that different and that maybe they could start a killer band together). Hamilton, a city made up of quite a special patchwork of people, feels appropriately represented in the diverse sounds these hometown boys employ on Feel Like I’m Going Away.
They’ve been going hard with live shows in Toronto and surrounding areas (kudos for going loco for local, boys), and they’re got a big show this month, opening for the self-described “flower-punk” bank Black Lips from Atlanta, GA. Go bang that head for a few hours at The Phoenix in Toronto this September 25th.
