Escape the winter blahs by attending the engaging and original Padre Pio, presented by the Classical Theatre Company. An intimate church setting is a perfect backdrop for the play.
Padre Pio was a man who was eventually made a saint. John Cope and Peter Tassi have created an original musical comedy to bring the messages of Padre Pio to a wider audience.
Director Peter Anderson has assembled a diverse and talented cast for the show. Eric Charters and Sharon Rebecca Gronfeldt bring their experience and talents to the roles of Giovanni and Frances. Their singing, both of solos and during duets, display their extraordinary talent.
Anthony Zita’s Bishop is very funny and his talent is also evident especially in his song, “It’s Not Like Me to Complain.” Supporting cast members Tara Kennedy, Julia Gorban, Heather Baer, and Renfred D’Souza each play several characters, effortlessly transitioning from role to role.
Director Peter Anderson also plays the role of Mario. He and Chambers’ tension as they fight for the attentions of Frances is convincing and adds some suspense to the comedy. Eric Luvisotto’s Padre Pio is fantastic. The ensemble blends together fabulously on group numbers such as “Pray Hope and Don’t Worry.”
Part of the proceeds of the play will go to charity, and the show is definitely worth spending every penny. Be sure to catch Padre Pio, continuing at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Stoney Creek, from February 5th – 7th at 8 p.m.
Start time is 8pm. Cost: $15/ticket.
