The sixth annual Sippin’ at the Dock of the Bay, a fundraiser for the John Howard Society of Hamilton, Burlington & Area, which takes place on Friday, June 3/16 offers all this, and more!
You and your friends will savvour a tasty BBQ and dance to the music of the Retro Party Groove Band. Check out the numerous items at the silent auction and there is a live auction with outstanding items, and a raffle. A special performance by Ron Dewberry performing songs from the Rat Pack to Elvis adds to the evening’s entertainment!
The funds raised during the evening support Liaison College Youth Success Fund, now renamed the David Lane Youth Success Fund in memory of David Lane who passed away on May 18th, 2016. Six years ago in partnership with the John Howard Society of Hamilton, Burlington & Area, Rudy and Susanne Florio, President and Owners of Liaison College, established the Liaison College Youth Success Fund to financially support at risk and marginalized youth in our community.
Through the support of John Howard’s programs and services, selected youth who have successfully overcome barriers in their lives and have been accepted and are enrolled in post secondary education/training at a trade school, community college or university, are awarded yearly bursaries to further support their educational goals. Recipients have typically experienced limited opportunities, poverty, difficult home lives, and many barriers to success, both academic and personal.
Recipients are eligible to apply for an Award each year of their post secondary program based on their successful completion of the previous year. Although having done well academically, recipients are not candidates for traditional scholarships and bursaries. Without the support of this Fund, recipients would not have the support needed to pursue their post secondary educational dreams.
