He’s conquered Vegas and Hawaii, but can Elvis handle Newfoundland?
The King meets the Rock in this fun-filled imagining of a classic Elvis movie set in Newfoundland. Johnny (Elvis (Actually creator and director Will Gillespie)) is a Memphis speedboat champion who finds himself cast away on this strange island. He meets a colourful cast of characters and finds himself all shook up as he tries to navigate life the Newfie way. Will he learn to rant and roar like a true Newfoundlander or is the maritime air too much for a pair of blue suede shoes?
Produced in Hamilton and featuring local talent, the show boasts an impressive 14 original songs performed live on stage, and a script that feels like it really could be out of the high point of the King’s movie career, with some strong comedy for good measure.
This show is definitely one of the highlights of this year’s Fringe, and the public has responded with lines going out the door and down the block. Make sure to get your ticket early, or you’ll be out in the cold without even a cod for company!
