The 2017 Canadian Artists Selected By You (CASBY) Award show took place November 1 at The Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. This annual celebration of independent and alternative music is hosted by
102.1 The Edge (formerly CFNY).
As should be expected there was tremendous positive energy given off by the performing artists, The Edge radio station listeners and on air personalities who presented the awards. A DJ played music in between award presentations and performances by Ascot Royals, Bleeker, Dear Rouge, Matt Mays and The Sheepdogs.
Some lucky audience members were rewarded with fun freebie tosses like T-shirts. Each of the five rockin’ bands played for about 20 minutes and put on nothing short of a spectacular show. The final act, The Sheepdogs, invited members from the other bands to join them onstage to end the night with a tribute performance of Tom Petty’s “You don’t know how it feels.”
This year’s CASBY Award winners include Hollerado for Favorite Sugar Beach Sessions, Ascot Royals for Best New Artist, The Arkells for Favorite New Song, and Mother Mother for Favorite New Record. If best hair were a category the competition would be insane.
