What does it mean to be a hero? In the Director’s Cut, directed by Liz Buchanan and written by Liz and Scott Buchanan of 9M Theatre, the cast and crew of a silent film find themselves at a crossroads.
The year is 1913 and the new art of cinema is bringing in viewers by the thousands to watch newsreels and adventure serials. While some production companies hope to cash in on the new fad and make a quick buck, aspiring director Charles and former stage star Nora begin to question whether they have to play out the same old roles on the silver screen or indeed, in their lives.
The production makes use of the venue’s projection screen to intersperse the live action with fanciful silent film clips, and minimal props keep the stage action flowing. An enjoyable hour of theatre with a satisfying ending.
