High-Functioning is a powerful new single by Alannah Kavanagh of Grizzly Coast, written when she was going through a difficult time with OCD, an illness that no one can see on the outside. This speaks to mental illness and how it has the same power as a physical illness.
High-Functioning is upbeat while remaining serious and to the point about a person who is striving to get along in life while dealing with challenges. Alannah wanted to do something productive with her emotions instead of bottling them up inside and letting them take over her.
Anyone who is struggling with internal issues will relate to this song.
As the artist explains, “With the high-energy melody and bouncing riffs, I wanted to evoke the feeling of chaos when your anxious thoughts start to control you while you’re trying your best to keep up. What’s on the surface doesn’t illustrate the whole picture of anybody.”
