One listen to Jess Knights’ new ballad, the passionate Leave Me For The Last Time, and you know that the classically trained Calgary based singer/songwriter means business. Possessing a soulful blues sound, with a touch of country “loved and loss” vibe mixed in for good measure Knights’ clear vocals emphasize that she’s no longer content to put her life on hold for a relationship.
Backed by her ability to hit the high notes when needed what could be a morose song about lost love turns instead into a powerful and joyful ode to female independence.
Knights’ burst on the scene in 2017 with the release of her successful debut EP, Won’t Wait. The EP appeared on year-end lists with the Calgary Herald, and TheYYScene named her a talent to watch.
Won’t Wait was played often on SiriusXM, CBC Radio, and was popular on Canadian college stations. And Knights’ is currently in the running for the Best Musical Act in Calgary 2020.
If Leave Me For The Last Time is any indication, fans will be very pleased when Knights’ debut full length album, Best Kind of Light drops in May 20/20. Produced in Toronto last year with award-winning producer Joshua Van Tassel, Donovan Woods, Joey Landreth and others, the theme of the album is walking through the hell of losing in love, but realizing that she will survive and thrive on her own.
