A new year, a new monkey.
Monkey Biz is an online show and magazine produced out of Hamilton, Ontario.
In 2010 we're looking for your stories in words, pictures and video. It's your monkey, so tell us what you want to see.
Got a story idea? Want to get involved?
We're looking for those hidden stories you wouldn't normally see, hear or read. Your can write for us, work with us on the show, send over your ideas or tell others what's on your mind.
It's your monkey, tell us what you think. We want to hear from you.

June is busting out all over |
I've watched the greening of Hamilton with a deep sigh of relief. All of a sudden, in one big 'pop', leaves have appeared.

Look Up, Way Up |
 |
From practical applications, like sailors who used the stars to determine their own places on earth, to scientific exploration, like learning that the Moon's gravity directly impacts the tides and weather, to the fantastic, like the ideas that the stars determine our fates, people have wondered what influence the solar system has had on their lives. Wandering and Belonging Together |
 |
Have you ever explored the alleyways of downtown Hamilton? I encourage you to venture through a few this year. Walk slowly. Look up and around you. You may be unmoved, and you may feel lonely. On the other hand, you may experience wonder and curiosity. Read the rest of this post »

On Listening |
 |
Listening will not “solve” the many issues that diverse youth in Hamilton face. It will not save the world. Listening is not easy. Get Well, Stay Well |
 |
Have you ever looked around you and saw the adversity in life and not the opportunities? My moment with nature this morning helped me realize that I need to take stock, every day, of what works for me in this old world and what doesn’t. Then, I need to let go of what I don’t need and keep the things that help me grow. Read the rest of this post »

Economy Eshmonomy |
Congratulations – you’ve just realized that slaving over a deep fryer this summer will probably not lead to your dream job as an investment banker, marine biologist or New Age guru. But in today’s economy can you really afford to put down the french fries? In the opinion of Kathryn Hryb, Senior Career Advisor at McMaster University’s Career Services office, an economic nightmare might actually be a student’s dream. Read the rest of this post »

The Road to Hope |
 |
Earlier this year, I traveled to Cap Haitian, Haiti to document Hamiltonians working with Haitians. I went with Esther Pauls, the director of the Runners’ Den, and Art Duerkson, member of the Joy and Hope of Haiti, to document an annual marathon called the Road to Hope. These local organizations host the marathon, and they frequently send Hamiltonians to Haiti to help construct schools, churches, clinics and orphanages. In the end, we captured over 1,000 images and shot hours of video. We hope that these images demonstrate the optimism and wealth of culture that exist in Haiti. Read the rest of this post »
