For the second year, local art studio Jaded Dragon Studios is giving back to Burlington’s art community by hosting their own art exhibition and sale: Art-O-Con. They have signed up over 70 independent artists and vendors who along with special guests will help present Burlington’s second Art-O-Con.
The show runs from 11 am – 9 pm on Sunday, May 5 at the Holiday Inn located at 3063 South Service Road in Burlington. Admission is $5, and kids under 12 get in for free. JDS is thrilled to have this opportunity to support local artists and help them show their work to the public.
JDS partners Paul Schultz and Lara Aiken have sold 70 plus tables to local artists including illustrators, animators, puppeteers, photographers and a potter. Headlining guests this year include legendary independent film studio, Troma Entertainment Inc., and every horror fan’s favourite, Fangoria magazine.
Returning this year, award winning artist Richard A. Kirk, who recently finished illustrations for an anniversary edition of Clive Barker’s Weaveworld. Alongside this multitude of artists will be many vendors such as t-shirt gurus, Sick on Sin, and purveyor of all things ‘steampunk’, Tallgear Industrial.
Also present will be special guests who make any con a memorable event. The 501st Legion will be there with up to 15 members in full Star Wars costume. The Ontario Ghostbusters are attending and a real Dalek. Accompanied by the Doctor Who Society of Canada they will be celebrating fifty years of Doctor Who. Zombies galore will be present representing the Toronto Zombie Walk. All these great people and characters will be available for photo ops with attendees and their children.
Jaded Dragon studios is a independent art house making art and supporting local artists in Burlington, Ontario. They exhibit and sell their work at many shows, the biggest being Fan Expo held in Toronto. Their products include greeting cards, art prints, sculpture and their self published children’s graphic novel, Beware of Frog and for the adults, Wolfsbane. Art-O-Con is a perfect chance for them to showcase the brilliant artists they have met during their travels.
