With tremendous buzz, the Teeny Tiny Music Show is already claiming its place as the hottest event in the 2016 Fringe. At its first weekend show, the house was already so crowded that your own humble reviewer wasn’t able to get a seat with a view of the stage! However, this turned out not to be much of an impediment.
In an unusual twist, the venue for this particular production isn’t a theatre or a converted gallery space, but rather the popular Baltimore House tavern on King William St. Patrons are encouraged to order food and drink, and the looser atmosphere really compliments the performance well. The show begins as a simple lounge act, albeit with the traditional sequined cocktail dress replaced by a bright orange fleece onesie. Hayley Pace croons onstage accompanied by Luc Gaylie on an old upright piano. The energy soon picks up as musicians seem to crawl out of the woodwork, enveloping the whole bar in a frenzied whirlwind fusion of jazz, cabaret, rock and klezmer.
Don’t miss this show, it is a truly unique experience that’s worth ten times the admission price. I’ll be back again tonight, but this time I’ll make sure to get there early so I can grab a spot near the middle of the room.
