An absolute spectacle with dance, songs, live instruments and more, B!tch Island may be the greatest show I have ever seen in all my years at the Hamilton Fringe Festival.
A take-off of infamous bygone exploitation films like Caged Heat and Helga, She Wolf of Spilberg, B!tch Island updates the concept for the #MeToo era, with the inmates and COs of the titular all-female prison asking heavy-hitting questions about what it means to be a proud, strong woman in the modern age.
Did I mention the entire cast are men?
B!tch Island oozes quality with every moment. The musical numbers are a cut above, with multiple live instruments and five-part harmonies, and the dance choreography consistently wowed the crowd. The meager handful of props we’ve all come to expect from a Fringe production are used to great effect to create everything from barren, barred cells to high-speed chases.
This is not a show to be missed. If you only see one Fringe show this year and don’t take offense to a little blue language and brazen sexuality, this is the one to see. B!tch is the new Orange!
