The video is kind of strange, but really awesome. And the song is punk, but not pompous. The song sounds a little bit like beachy lo-fi band Wavves (Hunters’ record label brother), and also a little bit like all-girl noise-pop band Dum Dum Girls. It’s a little louder, with a little more oomph than lo-fi, but the droning and vocals are there.
The band offers a cool sound on this track because of the male/female-paired vocals. They complement each other with the shredding guitar backing them.
From Brooklyn, PA, Hunters is currently signed to Mom + Pop records, along with Andrew Bird, Neon Indian and Sleigh Bells among others. They’ve been a band since 2006 and have a vast history of tour dates in Canada. This album, self-titled Hunters, is their third full-length that came out on the first on this month.
Currently on a West Coast tour the band, unfortunately, won’t make their way to Southern Ontario this fall, but keep your eyes peeled for shows later on, they’d be worth checking out live. Bands like these are the best kinds to see live. It requires a lot of energy and stage presence to perform music like these, and this guy(s) and gal have got it.
