For just over two years Ajna Productions has held events of all varieties in and around Hamilton. Ranging from weekly parties, local band showcases, big events with artists like Gramatik, and Zeds Dead, to their newest venture… A monthly showcase of live music and art at Hamilton’s Club Absinthe dubbed Professor Quigley’s Big Experiment.
The Big Experiment this month will feature three bands, two Hamilton favourites, The Monarch Project, and Toadhouse alongside an up and coming band from Toronto, Atom & The Volumes. Like all the monthly Big Experiments this month’s will feature live art from KH8 Designs, Live Visualizations from Lightsweetcrude, and Fire Spinning from the Ajna Free Flow Troupe.
Also they will be giving away a FREE 300 level ticket to Phish at The Molson Amphitheatre to a lucky attendee of the Experiment.
This month’s Big Experiment has a psychedelic indie rock vibe coming from the bands. A blend of 90’s rock and trippy jams that emanate with bands like Oasis, Phish, Broken Social Scene, and The Grateful Dead can be heard at any point throughout the night, as visual master Jason Steidman of Lightsweetcrude paints the music behind the band with classic Pink Floydesque oil on water displays.
The addition of art has been a bit difficult to master but it really adds a big aspect to the events. Artists have a chance to reach people that normally would not attend an art gallery. It’s an outlet for art-forms that shy away from the general public to be easily accessed by exactly that, the general public. Any venue will host a concert with three bluesy bands on the bill, but whenever you attend the Big Experiment you get to experience a mini festival of sorts, both inside Absinthe and on their massive patio. An incredible display of art in a way that’s easy for anyone to let go from the month at work and take a mini vacation to Professor Quigley’s Big Experiment.
The upcoming spring, specifically the month of May, is no exception for Ajna with a fully stacked line up of events almost every weekend. Keep your eye out for the pyramid, amazing live music will be sure to follow.
